For the year of 2025, I have decided to tackle one of America’s most enigmatic writers: William Faulkner.
William Faulkner (1897-1962) has slowly become one of my favorite American writers. He is the author of 19 novels, countless short stories, and much more.
I became acquainted with Faulkner earlier this year when I decided to give him a shot. When I entered a bookstore, I would walk past him and not sparing any time for him.
This attitude changed when I finally read Light in August (1932). This novel blew me away. It was challenging, entertaining, and interesting. It is difficult to articulate the shape of this story because it is something one has to experience.
After finishing Light in August, I read and finished The Sound and the Fury (1929). I never knew you could put certain restrictions on storytelling as Faulkner did in this book. The Sound and the Fury is a masterpiece of American literature. It displays the artistic genius of Faulkner as he portrays the moral decadence of the South and the decay of the Compson family.
Perhaps, I will write a review at another time.
In lieu of my peaked interest in Faulkner, I have decided to make a special author’s project focusing on Faulkner. Attached is a Word Doc with more information, as well as a YouTube video where I announce this project with pride.
I understand Faulkner can be intimidating; however, I encourage you to pick up a book and join me in this reading adventure!
